To begin creating products we need to navigate to “Catalog”>”Manage Products” as shown below.
From here we can click on “New Product” at the right of your screen. Once you have done this you will be presented with the menu as shown below.
We now have a few variables to fill in. Class is either going to be Inventory or Non-Inventory. An inventory item is for items that you track and non-inventory items are those such as fees, labor and other objects that you may not want to track inventory for. For now, let’s create an inventory product. Type will allow for you to choose between “Simple Item” and “Configurable Item”. We are going to create a “Simple Item” first so please select this option. Attribute set is for choosing which attribute set the item belongs to and which attributes will apply. This will be covered in a later section so for now please select “Inventory” and click “Continue”.
The image above is your product management screen which is where you should be now. For an item to be created you will need to fill in any items marked with a red asterisk as these are required fields. These values can be whatever you’d like. As you can see on the right side of the screen, there is a “Tax Class” field. You can apply a certain “Product Tax Class” here as we covered earlier. Please fill in the required information on this page and click “Save”. We have now created a Simple Item.
